What happened to Thanksgiving?

Boy, there’s nothing like a minor health crisis to make time vanish. I apologize for not posting for the last, uh, five weeks.

I sort of have breast cancer.

Did that get your attention? It got mine, LOL. Actually, I have a “pre-cancer,” known as ductile carcinoma in-situ and abbreviated to DCIS. Translated into English, that means there are some fast-growing, fast-dying cells in the milk ducts (ductile carcinoma), but they haven’t spread (in-situ). Since they haven’t spread it’s not invasive, which is half of the definition of cancer. As a net result I don’t quite have breast cancer, but if I don’t do anything about it I will have breast cancer.

Dammit. Pardon the language, but it’s annoying. Really.

Tuesday morning I go in for a lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy, which is a long-winded way of saying I get to spend the whole bleeping day at the hospital and then go home to be miserable in my own bed with two incisions rather than one. Joy. And I still have six weeks of radiation treatments to look forward to, because the pathology report said the cells were “intermediate.” I have some doubts about that pathology report, but that’s my inner analytical chemist trying to get out; she always wants to see the raw data and draw her own conclusions.

The most annoying part of the whole thing is that I haven’t written on any of my WIPs in almost three weeks. That must stop. I get cranky when I don’t write and it’s almost Christmas: It is not acceptable to be cranky with my family at Christmas.

So, without further ado, I have to go write now.
