New Excerpt – Valois Contingency Opening

I posted part of the opening scene for a book I’ve been working on for…a while (I think I started it in 2007 and it’s still less than halfway through the first draft). This is the point where everything changes for the heroine and she has to overturn all her plans and get away from a bad situation rapidly heading for horrible.

I’m not sure I like it. She’s under a lot of stress and trying to think very quickly. As a result, she’s so emotionally shut down that it feels to me like it drags–and she doesn’t say much, either.

Let me know what you think. Do you sympathize with this woman? Is she interesting enough to read a whole book about? Should I cut the scene from the  book and just post it here as a teaser?

Thanks,

Val

Public Service Announcement

Just popping in for a moment to say: My class Practical Chemistry for Writers starts up tomorrow so I’ll most likely be a bit sparse for the next week or so.

On the other hand, I finished judging my entries for the On the Far Side contest organized by the RWA Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal chapter–a week before the deadline. Ahhh, the feeling of accomplishment.

And now, back to my work in progress….
